A new initiative is coming to Macomb County that is going to hopefully change the face of how we deal with addiction in our communities. The new program that will be instated soon in police departments all across Macomb County called "Hope Not Handcuffs."

According to the report from FOX 2 News, "Addicts can turn over their drugs without fear of arrest, and police will call a 'Rehab Angel' who will sit with them and get them into a treatment center."

Though walking into a Police Station with drugs on your person may sound scary if you are an addict, it will hopefully bring some people forward who are willing to get clean.

Roseville's Police Chief James Berlin was quoted saying the following in regards to cost of the program, which is FREE:

"If you walk in, we will get you help. You don't have to pay for anything. If you have insurance, great; if you don't, don't worry about it. Come in; we'll get you help.".

According to FOX 2's report, the program will launch at the precincts February 1, 2017.
