MO POP Music Festival pulled out all the stops for their major headliners this year, including Alt-J, Foster The People, Run The Jewels, and Solange.
In comparison to the Lollapalooza lineup which was also just released, a good chunk of the headliners are the same, so we expect that many people will opt staying in Michigan and hitting these artists rather than making the trek to Chicago.
What will be involved in this year's festivities on July 29 and 30? Quite a few things!
MO POP's Press release states that "In addition to 10+ hours of non-stop music each day," there will be the Riverside Biergarten, which will feature microbrews, Michigan beer, and specialty drinks. The Food Truck Alley will be returning for a diverse platter of all delicious noms, as well as the Craft Bazar, which will have a ton of handmade goods from Detroit's special talents.
They will also be bringing back the Tech Tent and MO POP Arcade, which is a hot spot for cool people, [READ:] Air Conditioning.

The Group "Dads and Dragons" have organized the second Harry Potter and the Transfigured Town Festival in Goderich, Ontario, Canada. The festival, according to Narcity, will be transformed for 3 days into the Magical World of Harry Potter, and it is to raise funds to improve the town.
The event includes the following:
- Official Quidditch Canada matches for Goderich’s Cup,
- Unofficial Quidditch matches for the Marauder’s Cup,
- Live performances by The Lovegoods and Tonks, as well as The Aurors,
- Multiple vendors and participating businesses (including a craft wand shop),
- A Poly-Wizard Tournament,
- A House challenge,
- A scavenger hunt,
- Free face painting, and much more!
What could be the first makings of a Harry Potter Con of sorts, I of course, already got tickets. You can do so here, and the early birds at $15 were already gone, so if you're a die hard Harry Potter fan, it's time to head to Canada this fall. And for you Detroiters, it's ony a 3 hour car ride - shorter than driving to Toronto.
Description from Eventbrite
"Youmacon is a popular culture event similar to most “Comic Cons”, however instead of focusing on comic books, Youmacon is a celebration of Japanese popular culture and its influence on our own culture over the past few decades. Common themes throughout the event are Anime (Japanese animation), Video Games, Japanese style artwork and comics, and the rising internet culture influenced by all of the above.
Youmacon brings a unique all-ages mix of interactive events, celebrity guest panels, and live musical performances to Downtown Detroit. One of its most popular events, “Live Action Mario Party”, emulates the video game experience – often filling the room to fire code capacity. Players participate in gameshow-like mini-games to help their teams advance and win.
Wearing costumes, or “Cosplay” as it's known at conventions, is very popular with attendees of Youmacon. It is not uncommon to walk into a pair of Italian plumbers in overalls on the escalator, only to meet someone dressed as Edward Elric or Master Chief from Halo minutes later."

For more information, please visit Make Music Day or Fête de la Musique‘s websites.
All Make Music Detroit events are:

- All ages with genre restrictions
- At multiple locations
- On June 21st (the longest day of the year)
Make Music Detroit is more than a music event. Our purpose is to bring attention the importance of early music exposure for kids and the benefits of music in people's daily lives. Detroit became a fountain of reverence in culture and humanities in part because of how the universal availability of music and arts education enriched its citizens. Every Detroit child deserves access to music education and Make Music Detroit is dedicated to supporting this goal.
For the inaugural MMD2016, we coordinated more than a dozen sites around the city to serve as venues for over 100 free performances. Most sites were dispersed within three walkable clusters situated within the Cultural Center, Downtown and North End neighborhood. Attendees were able to visit Detroit Institute of Arts, ASSEMBLE Sound, The Carr Center at Harmonie Park, Urban Bean Co., Northern Lights Lounge, Cass Cafe, Third Man Records Cass Corridor, Jazz Cafe at Music Hall and other sites along the Oakland Avenue Artist Corridor to enjoy and experience every kind of musician – young and old, amateur and professional, of many musical persuasions (from jazz to folk to experimental to soul to electronic).
This year for MMD2017, performances will start Wednesday, June 21st at Noon and ends at Midnight. Mark your calendars and let’s make it better than the last. We will see you there!

Surreal Sleepwalking + The Grasshopper Underground present:
Grensta (Psycho Disco, Nite Records, Perfect Driver Music)
Sonya Alvarez (Country Club Disco, Surreal Sleepwalking)
Roman Holliday (Surreal Sleepwalking, Grenadier Club)
+ No matter how big or small the club or festival, Grensta brings a dynamic underground ethic to every show; an ethic that is reminiscent of the days when DJ’s themselves were not the idolized center of the room, but instead selfless participants in the enjoyment of the beats and the atmosphere. This attitude is reinforced by his unique production approach, as his tracks emote a fresh interpretation of classic deep house using smooth builds and infectious bass lines with crunchy analog leads that drive his audience forward.
Winning the Insomniac Discovery Project: Beyond Wonderland contest was a big moment, giving him a taste of what hard work and determination can bring when following a dream. His tracks are supported by the likes of Golf Clap, Shiba San, Dillon Nathaniel, Vanilla Ace, Sinden and Treasure Fingers, appear in mixes on Perfect Driver, The Birdhouse, Data Transmission and RinseFM as well as in publications like Mixmag, Earmilk, YourEDM, Gotta Dance Dirty, Insomniac.com and Magnetic Magazine.

Detroit State of Mind is a unique curated art show featuring distinctive pieces by eight local artists. Each artist’s story is unique, and the narrative their artwork constructs is just as colorful as the city that it was created in. The Art Experience will feature photography, painting, music, and the premiere of the 5th episode in the #JourneyToADetroitFilm Series. Admission is free, but we will be accepting donations at the door for the Detroit Impact Center, a community based youth center on Detroit’s Westside that works to help at-risk youth develop a sound values system, strong personal motivation, and positive self-esteem. Doors open at 7pm—bring a friend and come enjoy the artwork and an adult beverage with artists and other locals.
